Selling cars through Facebook
Options
Just thought I'd post something here about the success I had selling my car on the local Facebook Sell and Seek Group.
Put the car on autotrader (paid, obviously) and had 3 phone calls and no views.
Put it on Facebook (free) and was gone within 48 hours for about the price I paid for it 18 months ago!
Obviously the good thing about it is everyone is local. Other cars seem to be bought and sold on it pretty quickly too if the price is right. I was actually interested in a replacement car that was listed there but it sold before I could get to it.
I think the thing is people who don't really know much about cars use facebook and such pages to buy and sell anything really. They might not have the confidence or knowledge to use Autotrader or eBay. They probably usually just buy their cars from a local dealer or by word of mouth, so its a good way of accessing a broad audience. Though I should say the cars are generally pretty cheap, most under £1000, almost all under £3000, don't think you'd have the same success listing a 10k BMW or something...

facebook (buy or sell swap shops) are ample places to get rid of a failing motor (money pit) and ive seen some cars on my local swap it pages i recognise that are infact a local garage/trader (background area behind the car gives it away), with a description of basics baught new car need this one gone asap £xxx ovno.
my advice to anyone buying on there a motor vehicle or motor bike, is to make sure you do your basic checks and HPi make sure the address your going to is the address on the v5c you have in your hand on inpsection. if not walk away0 -

On the subject of addresses I had to persuade the woman who bought mine to come into my house (so she could see it was my house!).0 -
I sold a car on fb......genuine sale, belonged to my sons fiancee and the previous owner was my nephew......the car had been in our family for over eight years and the only reason for sale was a newer car.
And in a topsy turvy tale, was bought by a local motortrader who could spot a bargain.
So there is some genuine cars out there

Auto Trader is full of these foreign off shore scammers these days. Its a nightmare selling on there. Facebook being very local and sociable is much easier i may approach this step for my car.Better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.0

oh dont get me wrong, ive seen a few bargains on there that if i had the cash i would have jumped at it, like recently i seen a escort mk2 mexico on there all MOT's and history of vehicle, was less than £2000 OK it needed a respray and some trim missing but at that price a classic like that could trebble that price after a £1000 respray.0
