Do you need to take ID into a branch if opening a Halifax account online ?

Quick question about Halifax ID.

Me and my wife are going to open 3 reward accounts, 2 in single names and 1 in joint names and cycle £1k through them all once a month to get the free £5.

We have existing Lloyds accounts and are both on the voters role but as we live in Scotland there are no Halifax branches up here, and I am sure I read somewhere that you must hand your ID into a Halifax branch only (Not a Bank of Scotland branch).

Will they want ID from us, and if so must I take it into a Halifax only branch ?, neither of us have ever been asked for ID from a Bank before as it was all done online, and indeed my wife did have a Halifax accountup until about 2 years ago so I don’t know if they would still have her ID onfile as her internet banking log in still works but says that there are no accounts to display.

Grateful for any help.

Thanks.

I opened a basic account with Lloyds recently and I didn't need to provide ID, maybe because I'm on the electoral roll.

I remember back in 2007 I opened an account with A&L and I applied online, three days later I received my debit card. Strange how some banks do things.

i doubt you'd be required to provide any ID, however you'll know for sure when you receive a latter from them. Remember, even though you have accounts with Lloyds, Halifax will not take these accounts into consideration while processing your application.

    Hi

I opened a bank account and joint bank acount with Halifax the start of September. They did not ask for any I.D. at all. What they did do was search my credit report. I am a member of experian so I was informed of the notification. Saying that they only searched my file once.
I think banks do things differently now. Back in 2003 when I opened my Lloyds TSB account I had to provide I.D. but I think that is because I was only 16 so not on the electoral role at the time.
When I applied for my mortgage with Halifax I did not have to give any I.D. either aside from 3 wage slips. I was expecting them to want to see my passport or drivers Licence but they didn't so with regards to your bank accounts you will be fine as long as you are on the electoral role.

You would only be required to provide ID if you cannot be verified electronically. Generally this means that you are on the electoral roll, have credit elsewhere etc. If you have had several addresses in the last few years then they may ask you for supporting ID.
  • I am doing this too, did u do the 3 applications at the same time ?
and have u had any trouble opening 3 accounts ?

I am going to have to do it online, as being in Scotland there are no Halifax branches.
