Vodafone shares

Have been watching these for months and just wish I had bought at £1.64 some time ago.
I see they have dropped back a bit today to £1.73, but there have been a few "Transaction in Own Shares" during the first week of September. Is this something sinister? Have Vodafone had their day?

Looks like they've just paid some employees some shares as part of an incentive scheme. It's a few million shares out of a total of 45 billion, so I really wouldn't worry about that.
Looks like they've been falling because some brokers have downgraded them.
Brokers could well be wrong and it could be a good opportunity... But I wouldn't want to speculate

Iv held VOD for yrs and they have always been around 130-180p range and pay excellent dividends, if your hoping to double your money short term - no chance, but a great safe hold as they dominate the UK business market and are expanding in Asia.0

Vodaphone is in my shares 'want' list, primarily for the dividend though. Just need to keep saving the pennies some can buy enough to try and neutralise the charges.0

I read this last week over on the Fool, it may throw some light on the recent broker downgrades.

No I am not looking to double my money short term, just want to find some shares that pay good dividends and are not likely to disappear into the ether;)
Any other good dividend payers that you would recommend?
Many thanks.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
Financials like RSA and Aviva might be worth a look.
National grid maybe?
GSK's pretty sturdy.
RDS?
The above might be worth a look, if you want to go down the single share route.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -
altho' this is interesting - all this wish i had bought at such and such a price its all far too time consuming and filled with risk
doesn't everyone realise it's a zero sum game?
its far easier and profitable to run a nicely diversified low cost tracker portfolio
