Maybe your friends who eat more sugar don't go to the dentist and if they did they would need more fillings? You never know ;)

Every time I go to the dentist, he tells me my teeth are great and to come back in a year but I still go every six months.

I'm lucky because I've got medical health insurance at work and I get 75% refunded to me through the scheme.

Thanks for that. I 'll start using sweetner from now on.
I actually used to use sweetner rather than sugar a few years ago, but I think I stopped after reading lots of negative things about them.
Still, i'm gonna get back to using them.

Still convinced that my sugar intake is a LOT lower than most of my friends who have only one filling, but I guess that's just one of lifes mysteries.

And I seem to pretty much have my confirmation that white fillings on the back teeth are always done privately - which is the confirmation i'm after.

My brother had work done recently with an NHS dentist and had white fillings. I'll find out how much he paid when i see him this evening, hut If he comes back and tells my family (who are also horrified at the price I paid and actually angry with me) that his were cheap and ON THE NHS, i'll be in for some serious earache.

lol, they were angry with you?
What about? What did they say?

''You idiot. They must have seen you coming!!''
''It sounds like you're paying the private price and not NHS prices! Can't you do anything right??''
''you should have asked for white fillings on the NHS. You can't afford £300!! That's private prices!!. Silly boy''
    etc etc etc etc.

Been a bad day. Gonna get some overtime and work 12hour shifts for the next 2 weeks monday to Saturday, loading lorries and moving pallets. Life sucks. I'm sure I was happier when I was unemployed and on benefits, lol!!

Oh bless, it is crap having to pay so much for something and not having anything to show for it, but the way I see it, I want to keep my teeth for as long as I can so need to do the upkeep.

My dad is in his 70's and has so many caps and bridges and false teeth etc, I really don't want to go down that route if I can avoid it!

A wealthier friend than I has spent 50k on veneers and other dental work, yes she looks great but I'd rather make the best of what I've got!

Can you have the tea and coffee without the sugar or sweetener and not the one before bed at all ;)

But get another dentist to quote if you can just so you know you're not being ripped off by this one?

First comment seeing you coming - if that's their price then that's their price. You asked for the treatment.

Second - you ARE paying the private price

Third comment - we dont do white fillings for cosmetic reasons on the nhs. So your come backs are sorted ;-)
  • does the practice not allow you spread the payments at all?

This is good advice, - a lot of artificial sweeteners are not very good for you.

Xylitol is very good for you. It actually inhibits decay and there is some evidence it is antibacterial and may help with glue ear as well as tooth decay!

Its not how much sugar you eat or drink it's how often and when. 95% of dental treatment is entirely preventable. You are eating or drinking sugar at least 7 times a day on a normal day plus presumably more on other days and just before bed as well. It is no mystery why you have decay when the recommendation is no more than 3 attacks a day and never before bed.

Only you can stop your decay and if you don't the money you spent on White fillings will be money down the drain and you may as well go for silver fillings as they will need to be replaced soon!

sorry if this is a bit indelicate, but artificial sweeteners can have a laxative effect  so while they're better for teeth than sugar it might be better to go without sugar completely than ingest artificial sweeteners.
