Issue with second hand car - legal advice
Options
Hi
two days ago i bought a 05 plate, peugeot 206 hdi sport with 98k on the clock from a small dealer/garage.
Today whilst motorway driving my wife has noticed that periodically the cars engine management light comes on and it loses quite a bit of its power (struggles at 70mph) then after a few minutes it rectifies itself.
I bought this car on my credit card, i just want some legal advice to where I stand on both returning for a full refund and/or getting it repaired.
To be honest, unless the dealer is willing to pay for my car to be locally repaired I'd sooner return for a refund if possible because its about a 250 mile round trip for me to the dealer and I dont want to be back and forward for repairs etc if I can get away with it
Any advice would be welcome!

i'm not all for returning the car under soga because a EML light comes on two days after purchase, and it would not be fair to request a local repair.
have you changed anything on the vehicle such as wheels, stereo, because if you have this is deemed as acceptance of the vehicle in terms of what you suggest under soga.
TBH i cant see why you cant call the garage, inform them of the fault, and take it back to be "inspected only" of the problem, for all you know there could be crank shaft sensor fault and that wouldnt cost very much to replace for him, are take up too much time.
if there is a major mechanical fault such as compression low due to headgasket failure then you could then at that point before works is carried out (remember you requested an inspection only) request that you are refunded due to major fault.0 -
You would need to give the dealer a chance to repair the car first.
Why did you buy from so far away?0 -
Hi
I have changed nothing on the car and I have arranged for me to take the car back for inspection tommorow
Its the joys of living in rural cumbria and wanting a specific car, there was always going to be at least an hours travel to find the car I wanted0 -
Wow are 7 year Peugeots that rare in Cumbria?0

Red 206 hdi sports are when you have only got a few days to sort a car out before the missus starts uni0

i will go through this untill me head hurts and my heart bleeds,
you do NOT have to give the seller a chance to repair it.
as it stand now, under soga the OP hasnt Accepted the vehicle, he can return it for a refund.
but i'm not all for the above, and i will say that this could be simple a thing and let the trader look at it as that would be fair!.0
