I will try to keep this as simple as poss, feel free to ask questions if its unclear.
Am in the process of splitting with husband, after he had an affair, I am hoping to remortgage the house to raise money to pay off debts then he can go off on his merry way.
However, the problem I have is if I can't remortgage, what to do?
I can easily afford the mortgage payments on my own, but I can't afford them and all the debt repayments. The priority is to keep the house for the children to have stability. So would my best option be, keep up the mortgage repayments and then see if I can do a debt management plan for the debts. I'm guessing me and husband would have to do this together though as they are all in joint names? or could I do it alone?
Can anyone else see any other options?
Thanks
Bee

Hi Bluebie,
You might be better off posting this on the Mortgage and Endowments board.
You can do a 'Statement of Affairs' on the Debts board (I think? ETA: you may have found that already) and that will give you an idea of your finances beforehand. Are the debts in his name only, if they're his debts and not accrued together, leave him with them. You are going through the divorce with a solicitor aren't you? Get legal advice if not, before agreeing to anything!
The only other advice l could give would be have the mortgage on interest free? But of course if the capital is never paid off you'll never own your home.
Good luck. x

Hi
Thanks for replying, not actually going through the divorce at the moment so haven't seen a solicitor at all.
Just trying to sort stuff out, like I said i can afford the mortgage and bills just not the loan / credit card bills, the card is in his name and the rest of the stuff is either joint or in mine.
Argh feel like banging my head on a wall0
