A while ago I observed a customer in a well known supermarket unscrewing jars of jam and licking the contents. I gave the person the evil-eye and said 'will you be buyng them?' all I got was a smirk and just carried on. I informed a member of staff and they knew it was happening but couldn't stop it. I said you have cameras for shop-lifters surely you can see this sort of behavour. He just said it's up to customers to check the seals have not been tampered with. So beware when you have your breakfast jam, marmalade etc someones tongue may of got there before you Yuk yuk and more yuk.

This is why they have the 'popper' on the top of jars.
And in the grand scheme of things, the number of jars contaminated by morons like that is utterly negligible, not worth worrying about.0 -
i always check the popper on the top of any jars before i buy them x0

I blame the parents.
All parents should ensure they have plentyful supplies of jam in the cupboards at all times, otherwise things like this, and other jam related incidents are bound to happen.0 -
Not just supermarkets.
Was with OH in our fav cafe, and you know how they've the fridges with no doors for soft drinks? We watched (in horror) as a girl of about 3 or 4 yo handle all over the coke/fanta/etc bottles, pick whichever one she decided looked tastiest or something, and stuck the top of the bottle in her mouth, complete with lid/cap still intact...
The mother called her kid over, and the girl just left the bottle back on the shelf...

Did you try finding a more intelligent member of staff? Surely that's vandalism if not theft? They should have been following him round and removing those items from the shelves after they threw him out...oliveoil99 wrote: »I informed a member of staff and they knew it was happening but couldn't stop it. I saw something similar a few weeks ago - in a pet shop looking for some treats for my fuzzy little guys and saw a small child picking up water bottles and sucking the spouts! I frowned at him and his father saw the look on my face, turned around, told his child to 'put those back' and just carried on. Ick! At least I suppose it's not something anyone else is likely to stick in their mouths, but poor animals having to suffer with child spit

You could report them to the police; criminal damage perhaps?0

On the first page of the forum your post was showing as 'Be ware when buying edible p...'
I thought you were going to say 'panties' because the Pina Colada flavour is vile.
Sorry, not relevant to your post0 -
I work in a large supermarket and have seen quite often, people mouthing fruit such as apples, and putting them back! Disgusting.0
