Citroen dealer's rip off!

OK I decided to collect my car from the dealers because i couldn't afford what they wanted to charge me to replace the cylinders on my car. Remembering that they told me i would need them all changed, when collecting the car they then decide to tell me that i could just have 2 done ...i was like what!!! you told me on the phone that it is a requirement to have them all replaced and i asked if you could do just the one, they were wanting to charge me over £500 so the night before i went to collect it my partner ordered the parts over the internet for a silly price and so we have saved ourselves 400 quid!! ohh guess what they wanted £50 for plugging my car into a computer to find out what was wrong with it !!!! I payed £20 and it will be the last time they get my custom RIP OFF!!

  • What sort of cylinders? Engine, brake?
  • Well, so far you have spent £100 on parts unknown, and have yet to pay to have them fitted, so your final price of getting the car fixed will be higher.
An independent mechanic will have a cheaper hourly rate than a franchised dealer (around here an indy is £35-40 per hour, compared to around £75 per hour for a dealer) so you should be able to save money.
  • No boyse7en my partner is going to put them in and the only reason i sent the car back to the dealers was because we had our MOT done and had some work done on it and so brought it back to find out after an MOT and full service the car was not working...paying over £600 I feel really cheesed off, so i will be 400 better off! very happy indeed

Replace cylinders? Is it a 2CV with 2 engines or something?

Thats the only engine i can think of where you can unbolt a cylinder and replace one.

Are we talking injectors or glowplugs or something? valves?

They charge £50 because.. well because they can really.

But for your £20 you didn't or don't get any recall data or any ECU update information etc.
So sometimes the dealers prices are worth it. Probably not often.

Why pay £20 though when an £8 box off ebay does the same thing. Did you get
    ripped off paying £20?
