  • If your friends are judgmental about money problems... maybe get new friends?? :) justsayin

Also really try not to let these kind of debts affect your wellbeing. Even if you wrote to them all tomorrow and said you were never paying them anything and to go away there is very little they can actually do to you despite the scare tactics and what they say, unless you have recoverable assets or a debt to the Local Authority or council. You are protected by the law in this country. Build a personal barrier of well-being and do not let debt make you feel emotionally bad... that's what they want you to feel, oppressed, just think how much stealing and looting the big banks do everyday... do they feel bad??? No. Good luck! Apologies for non-specific rant ;)

    Hi Moose!

Firstly, congratulations on dealing with your debt. It is a horrible feeling when you see the actual figures down on [virtual] paper but it's also a great feeling when your battle plan is created!
Would your situation allow you to get a second job? Maybe in a bar or pub in the evening to squash those debts quicker? There's less opporunity to spend too!

Sorry to hear about your Mum, I hope she's doing well. As far as your parents are concerned, it seems to be the wrong way around - your parents should be supporting you, not the other way around. I think you need to focus on yourself and not give in to them not matter how bad you feel - think in the long term. Also you mentioned your sister, you need to show her that you can be strong and that bailing your parents out is not normal so that she doesn't find herself in the same situation.

I turned 26 last week, I have just over £6,300 in debt (car loan now on a 0% card) and will have this paid off by Christmas next year so can I join you on your journey?

Well things just seem to go from bad to worse with me!

From 15th Dec - 28th Jan 2013 I was gradually struck down with flu to chest infection to Pleurisy so was signed off work for a month in the end. However it did stop me spending lots and I actually finished the month for the 1st time in months with a healthy amount of money in my account! I also signed up to do a dryathlon in Jan and raised £300 so not a total failure of a month! The one month when I could have used a drink or 2!!

Also my Natwest debt has gone down by £70, it's a small amount but it is down non the less! I haven't spent on it and in fact they sent me a new card but I have put it in a draw so I am not tempted to spend on it.

I need to sort out a balance transfer but I am scared of being rejected by compainies. I checked my credit report on noodle and it said I was a 3/5. I am assuming that means if I do manage to get a Balance Transfer I won't get a very long one but it's better than nothing I suppose.

Me and the bf have cut down on nights out and when we do go out I usually drive to save on cab and drink costs. I have had a few days were I have spent no more than 80p this month too.

I am getting there slowly but surely! :)
  • From little acorns and all that...

Sounds as though you have put quite a few things into action. I can't get a 0% card so am concentrating on clearing the od, not that I've managed to start yet as DH's wages have dropped over the last couple of months. This should sort itself out by next month, April at the latest so fingers crossed.

Hope your mum is on the mend. It's draining for the families - I know only too well.
