SMP - Child & Working Tax Credit

Recently been put on SMP, I claim CTC and WTC. Now that my salary has gone down (SMP now approx £135), and previously received 90% how do I work out what my new salary is to notify the DWP. I have also received less in my previous salary prior to starting maternity due to prolonged illness before birth.

It is so confusing - an help would be really appreciated. Also looking for advice on other benefits I am able to claim.
Thanks.

  • Hi

As far as I have been made aware you dont let tax credits know you are on mat leave or mat pay, when you do your renewal in July you should take off £100 for every week you owe SMP (dont forget otherwise it can take up to 15 weeks to change it and will affect your money, I am going through this at the moment, unfortunatly in July I was suffering from severe baby brain!)
  • thanks for your responce EllaNElsie, a lady told me at work that when your SMP kicks in you notify them and they then increase your allowance to help you manage while on SMP. Am going to try to ring them tomorrow.
  • Ok I would be interested in what they say if you wouldnt mind posting back?
  • Have not managed to find out yet, will let you know when I do.
  • did you find out whether they make any adjustments whilst on SMP?
  • If you ring them with your new yearly income they will reavaluate your tax credits. Don't forget to take off the £100 p/w that you are allowed.
