Austerity driving up ebay prices?

Perhaps it less choice as more smaller sellers get restricted or eBay's advertising is working, they have after all spent a lot of time pushing Fashion as a key category.
The UK also has the fastest growing e commence environment and eBay has adapted it's model to include big brands to fill both ends from bargain basement to shopping mall.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
Most of the sellers that I am aware of that have been sent the dreaded ' you need to upgrade to a business account' have been selling new with tags, or even good quality used clothing.
Knowing the people who have been 'caught' I suspect that may account for the fact there are fewer clothes sellers around now. As 'private' sellers they could afford to sell quite cheaply, especially on free listing days, once they were forced to upgrade to a business account and had to offer returns they couldn't compete with legit business sellers.
A few of which I am aware were also afraid that someone had reported them and might also report them to the DWP as well and that might affect benefits etc, so safer to start selling on Facebook and stay under the radarI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I sell second hand designer clothes on eBay and my sales in the first 12 days of this month total £1039 for 35 items so I would have to agree with you OP...to my benefit!0

Last week I was looking for a particular item that I already had but wanted in a different colour, and ended up browsing lots of new clothes.
Several were being sold as 'New without tags' but with comments like 'worn once ' or 'barely worn- but now laundered and fresh'. The worst one though was new without tags but in description 'I altered the waist band of this as it is a size too large for me but needed it for a work do, it is easy enough to undo my alteration to make this skirt like new again'. sold as 'New without tags'???

/facepalm.
If that is the sort of stuff on offer from private sellers then perhaps it's no bad thing that they are being squeezed out due to poor performance.
I've given up buying clothes from private sellers and only occasionally buy items like that from business sellers. I'd never consider selling clothes either."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4
