Car Insurance no claims discount after selling car?

Hi
Son has just told me that due to finances he has to sell car.
He has 7 years no claims discount. Will he lose this, or can he reinstate it again when finances improve (hopefully) and he can buy another cheaper car.
Is there a time limit?
Thanks for any info.

Most insurers accept an NCD for up to 2 years. After that you'll struggle to find any that will and so it would be "lost" - though his claims history evidently stays with him0

Thanks. I'll pass on info.
Just a thought. If we add him to our car insurance would this help maintain the NCD?0 -
