scottish power arrears meter

Hi everyone I'm hoping you can help me.

Basically I started a thread a while ago in regards to our Scottish power bill. They tried to add the previous tennants arrears to our account upon us moving in (they were alerted to us moving in the day after we got there it's an mod property) which took a good few months for them to sort out.

We were about 5 months in arrears once they'd sorted it and sent the correct bill and numerous time's I'd asked them to set up a DD so I could begin paying it. We then in July got both gas and electric bills totaling £1500 (from roughly november last year) we'd put money away for when they finally sorted it out however it is much more than it should have been (it's been confirmed with readings)

Basically the issue we have is a payment plan. They wanted £700 up front and then payments of £200 PM to pay it off (the £200 is simply not doable for us considering our plan is supposed to be £80 for both PM) I explained this to them but they won't back down. They then offered to let us pay £250 PM with no deposit also not doable.

They are looking into putting a meter in so I can make the payments smaller and more affordable.

Basically my question is has anyone paid arrears off using this method? Is it pretty fool proof eg they don't steal all your credit instantly leaving you with none?

Also does anyone happen to know how much it will lower the payments PM?

also moving, we can pretty much be moved at anytime the army say, if we are informed that we are moving (at which the meter will need to be removed before next occupants move in) will this do this even if arrears are still owed? (major worry as mod will refuse to take the property back meaning we'll be paying for 2 houses)

I want to get this sorted and right now this is looking like the only route I have, just a little weary considering I have a little boy with severe autism, a newborn baby and a husband who is just about to leave for afghan the last thing I need is this all going pear shaped and us being left with no gas or electricity.

thanks in advance

put it to them this way, to obtain a warrant on mod property is hard. They need to allow the same time it took to sort to pay off.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

The only info i can give you is this :- if they set a meter in they will take a certain amount each day say £1.00 a day towards paying back your debt, however this amount will come off every day whether you put money onto the key or not. Even if you went away say for 2 weeks without putting any money on the key the set amount will still come off every day & if there was no money on there it will be deducted automatically when you top up the key (e.g. you left it 5 days and then topped it up with £10- £5 will automatically come off the key as soon as you insert it into the meter ) It is a pain really & you are paying more for your electric with a key but you just have to remember to keep it topped up or else you could be without electric.
