New to ebay - HELP!

Hi,

I have been using ebay for a while now but only from a buying perspective. After reading a thread on MSE :money: about how to turn your clutter into cash I thought I would give it a go and have very recently registered as a seller... this is where I need help!!

I understand that ebay charge for listings over 99p but if you have a listing for 0-99p but want to charge for postage would they then collect a listing cost??

I have also used Paypal as the payment method choice. When (or maybe I should say IF!) I sell an item, will the buyers payment go into my Paypal account and tot up in there until I want to transfer it into my bank account or will it happen automatically? And following on from this, when ebay collects charges will it come straight out of my bank or set off against any monies in my Paypal account.

I hope I have explained the things whirling around in my head properly!

No. Postage doesn't count. 99p start is fine for a free listing fee.

Yes, It will stay there until you request the money (or spend it on eBay ).

EBay invoice PayPal with your fees once a month. PayPal will take the requested amount from your PayPal balance first (if you have one). Your bank second.

Hiya, the paypal thingy is easy enough.... if there is any left after your spending, (from personal experience) the money still in there can be transferred back to your linked bank account at no cost. It will take a few days to get back there but is easy enough, i think its under the "withdraw funds" section.

ebay do not charge fees on P&P....take advantage of free listing days...usually on weekends. Ebay will will either email you or keep checking in the ebay announcements section on your ebay page under purchase history and sell section on the left hand side.

On these days you will not be charged fees on auction style listings even if your starting price is £99. you will be charged for other things like extra pics and second category....so always check the conditions.

if your listing is free then ebay will only charge you a fee based on the final value of the item you sold. if it's unsold then they don't charge anything.

money in paypal can be used to pay for other ebay items or some independent sellers now use paypal. if you get a larger amount collecting in there and want to transfer to your bank account then you will have to do this yourself...paypal won't do it.

Ebay will send you an invoice every few weeks if you sell regularly leting you know how much they will remove. my ebay fees come straight from my bank account rather than paypal. Not sure what i did but i think i requested they do that years ago.

please bare in mind if any refunds are made they will come from your paypal, if theres not enough there then paypal will use your bank account.
