asda online shopping...

1. If you key in 'frozen dessert' it brings up 'button sprouts'....
2. If you key in 'smartprice oil' it brings up malt vinegar, and shaving foam.....

But most annoyingly the message WE USE COOKIES AND ASSUME YOU AGREE TO THIS IF YOU CARRY ON USING THE SITE... or words to that effect...so then you HAVE to 'agree' or you don't get your home shopping..where is the opt out button then? hmm thought not!

  • Unfortunately, the cookie thing is a bit necessary. If it didn't store cookies, it wouldn't know who you are to add things to your basket. The site has always stored cookies but the recent EU change in cookie laws means a lot of websites have put up disclaimer statements to the effect to "get round" the laws. In other words, you want to shop online on their site (and most other shopping sites and, in fact, MSE most likely since it doens't log you out every time you click onto another page/topic) you have to use cookies to make it work. If you don't want to use the cookies, you can't use the site.

(Sorry that's probably a bit of a rubbish explanation and I am sure someone more technical will be along to correct it. ;) )

Can't help on the shockingly bad search engine they use though. :rotfl:

  • You can't blame ASDA for the stupid cookie thing, think it was some idiot civil servant with nothing else to do, that brought in that legislation.

As far as points 1 and 2 go, don't you like button sprouts, malt vinegar, and shaving foam? Sounds like fun night . . :rotfl:

...and if you type in 'cookies' you'll probably get biscuits!

I work as a website designer and MC is right. New EU legislation required that people were warned about using cookies. It is a bad law made by people who do not fully understand the implications of what they are doing (as is often the case with Internet legislation)

It came in on 26 May and in the lead up to this time it caused much consternation in the website design community. Cookies are required by many websites to facilitate interactivity or to make your visit to them easier and more rewarding.

There is nothing to worry about here. Some companies will use cookies for unethical purposes but these are the ones that would probably ignore the law anyway.

You know, I wish they'd call them something other than cookies. it's rubbish if you're on a diet and keep getting these pop ups.

  • Thanks for replies so far! Another thing I have noticed is despite them definitely being able to deliver to here for probably two or 3 years, suddenly halfway through your session a box pops up with 'enter your postcode to see if we deliver to your area' this is after you have already selected and booked your timeslot for delivery, and probably entered several items for purchase, the only way forward is to enter your postcode, then it takes you back to your session, only by now your basket is mysteriously empty, nescesitating (sp?) starting allover again.... Anybody else had this happen?

Had a home delivery from asda today, and for some reason they didnt have any small potatoes and oven bottom muffins..... they decided to not bother sending anything.... contacted asda to be told, that they didnt have any potatoes or oven bottoms in the store at the time they picked our order and that they didnt have any suitable alternatives...... our order was due to be delivered between 12 & 8 today..... and the store runs out of what i would class as 2 items that they shouldnt run out of.

My local Tesco often runs out of oven bottom muffins.
  • I'm going to be a bit thick here but what's an oven bottom muffin? After all the kinky talk of fun nights with vinegar etc. what's entering my mind is probably not what it actually is. :o

OP the logging you out thing is probably something to do with the cookies too. I have noticed since the cookie law came in, several sites I use auto log me out for no reason I can tell. I think they've made changes to comply with the law and haven't quite got it right.
