    Not through eBay.

You may be able to have recourse to the courts invoking the Sale of Goods Act but your seller can only be forced to give you a repair or exchange. SOGA gives items bought at a distance, ie on eBay etc, an effective six-month guarantee (any fault in the first six months after purchase is deemed to be the seller's responsibility unless they can prove you damaged it through your own fault - after this period the burden of proof that the item was faulty when bought shifts to the buyer) but you would have to make a small claim (through MoneyClaim Online) to enforce your rights.

You might find it useful to contact Consumer Direct to check the above but I'm not sure it is worthwhile enforcing this unless it was an expensive item.

Only if you want to reclaim your money and don't want another one from the same seller. You could send them a letter by recorded post stating what SOGA says about repair or replacement though.

Try looking at http://www.oft.gov.uk/business-advice/treating-customers-fairly/sogahome/ and composing something reasonable.

If it was new, try the manufacturer, they aren't obliged to do anything but the better ones sometimes will, especially if you happen to mention that you're posting about their company on here;)
