Items lost during hotel stay: convincing hotel to pay out

Best Western isn't a chain. It's a club, by invite only. If you privately own a hotel that is up to their standards, you can join the club and become part of the Best Western branding. While Best Western are keen to maintain standards across all their member hotels, they're more interested in whether the sheets were clean and if the breakfast was up to standard.0

Had this been in the UK I would argue they are involuntary bailees and have a duty of care over the goods. This would however be if you had any kind of evidence that they found the goods - at the moment you would have problems putting any kind of liability on them.
Although this isn't the UK, it's Japan - so you would need to read about their laws.
Maybe put this one down to experience, move on and take more care next time?0 -

Interesting & educational: thanks for giving me something to read up on (involuntary bailees), and for the club/chain distinction (PasturesNew). Think the final sentence just about sums it up: buy new copies & try not to think about the old ones every time I play!0
