Self-Employed Cleaner - Would You?

  • When I was a chambermaid we didn't get 45 minutes a room, more like 20 mins, if that.
If my posts have random wrong words, please blame the damn autocorrect not me :D
  • If you don't want to employ someone, use an employment agency or contract cleaning business.

THANK YOU for your reply - 20 mins - you certainly didnt get too much time for lazing around then !!:T

Going on your 20min per room figure, my self-employed staff at £5.50 per room would be earning £16.50 per hour.

Maybe I'm looking to offer too much

Seriously - thank you for your input NewButOld - much appreciated as I honestly didn't know what a realistic time per room was.

Why would I want to pay an employment agency to cream off any extra payment and just get someone in on NMW who isnt that bothered whether they do a great job or not.

I AM looking to appoint a contract cleaning company - hence the post - it's just that it would be a new person starting out with my hotel as their first contract with an eagerness to do well with a virtually risk-free first business.

Risk free - You can offer sometimes 2 hours a week sometimes more, sometimes could it be less?

How do you think this affects their benefits, tax credits or general income stream?

If looking for a contractor there are experienced agencies. What you are after is basically an employee, that is a different thing indeed. If they are sick for 3 weeks would you use them again? This is the risk with your proposal.

It's either a contractor (experienced or first time) or it's an employee.

Have you read the thread or just the last couple of posts?

    What?

If they failed to get the job done then No, I wouldn't use them again and I would cancel the contract asap. THAT is the whole point of entering into a CONTRACT ie both parties know exactly what each has to do.

If someone enters into a contract to perform a service and failed to do so, why would I want to keep them?

I refer you to several earlier posts.
  • I know what you say, but then you say

"I will be their first contract"

Why is important that you are their first client?

Because they'll be naive enough to only charge what the OP is willing to pay, and not the going rate for a self employed cleaner.
