I'll come back to this thread if and when I get the job, but yeah my boss usually sends those home when they hand in their notice. I think in the past people messed about or did very little and held everyone else up.0

I mentioned this as I know of a guy who I used to work with did this. But he claimed ssp for months when working elsewhere. He ended up in jail in the end for something unrelated.0 -

No point in signing a self certificate unless it means you get paid for the period it covers or you claim SSP.

I do a week in hand. So say for instance I phone in sick Monday, I don't go back, the following Friday I get paid the week in hand phone in and say I won't be back, ive got all I'm owed, bridges well and truely burnt though.0

Falko, unless your in need of a reference from the current employer, I wouldn't worry about it. I'd just walk and be done with it.
Go sick if you want as long as you don't sign anything to do with SSP / government money you'll be ok. If the company pay you sick pay out of their own money then thats pretty much their problem.
