Moral Dilemma

I filled in the online form and then went to the Job Centre Plus last week to start a claim. I haven't received any money yet.

I have an offer of 2 days work this week which will not take me over the 16 hours allowed before a claim has to be stopped. But it will mean I won't get any money for ages because the income for those days will wipe out that week's benefit. Now that would be OK except that I won't get paid until the end of October!

I know it is against the rules but I'm considering not declaring the 2 days work this week and waiting until nearer the time I get paid.

If I were getting paid for the work at the end of September I'd grit my teeth and hang on but I could really do with some income right now.

I'm not trying to defraud anyone and I will declare the work I just want to delay declaring it.

Thoughts would be welcome. Ta.

it isnt a mpral dilemma. its a ;egal one.

what you are suggesting is fraud.
  • Yes technically it may be but as long as the work is declared why does it matter? The only thing I am suggesting is that I move the date of the work. The payslip I will get at the end of October will not say when the hours were worked.

The only person it makes a difference to is me. The benefit will be deducted from a week in October instead of a week in September. It will still be deducted.

    .

This is fraud, and they will find out because you will be paying tax and NI contributions.

When you eventually declare it, what date would you say you started work then?

It's not worth it, you will get into trouble.

  • I'm not starting work. These two days are a one off for a company I have worked for before. There won't be any more.

I would do it the correct way or you will run into problems.

You may be able to get a crisis loan, all you do is ring the free number and answer some questions, they give you an answer there and then, and pay the money the same day.

there only give loans though for certain reasons, so you would need to google what they are.

they wont ask you if youve been paid in the past 2 weeks but if youve worked ......the answer would be yes... i worked but i wont be paid until october
  • Are you an employee of theirs?

If not is this a form of Self Employment/contracting work?
  • Yes contracting work. Nothing will be done with the timesheets until October - so I don't see how the Jobcentre could possibly find out. All that would happen would be that I would say I hadn't worked this week and then in October when I haven't worked I will say that I have. What's the difference?

Obviously if I get a 'real' job then I would declare that I had done 2 days work as soon as possible after I got the job.
