Help! Accident claim pending on my insurance - can i change insurers?

I had a small accident in my car in march swapped details etc and its showing up at swintons as claim pending? - i am getting a new car on thursday so rang them for a quote and it has come back at a crazy price -(from a 2.8 v6 engine - down to a 1.8 diesel? ) so i have been 'comparing the market ' etc for a better price - but where it says any accidents etc i dont know what to put as it wants amount claimed for etc - and i dont have this - nor do swinton as its pending? so what should i do - im a little confused - and i know i will probably end up having to stay with them as i see no other option? sorry i must seem very vague........ lol many thanks
