    OP - how much does he spend on smoking ? Roll ups are much cheaper than fags. If you are in the South it might be worth a trip to Belgium. My other half went recently, got enough tobacco for about nine months and saved about £400 . Now spending a couple of hundred a year instead of a couple of thousand when smoking 20 fags a day at UK prices.

    Does your partner want to give up ?

    You could trying posting your SOA for budget cutting ideas.

    Do you have a spending money problem, or a cash flow problem, or both?
    Filling up the bike is only a problem if there is a cash flow problem.
    Does your husband understand what the problem is?

    As has been said, giving up / cutting down smoking is easier said than done.

    As has been said, you need to work out a budget between you and then find some way to stick to this budget.
