Asda Car Insurance + Breakdown

Options
Took out Asda car insurance and it came with breakdown cover included for a decent price.

Went to add the breakdown number to my mobile only to discover it's an 08 number.

So you break down, need assistance and get stung with a 40p a minute phone number! I'm hardly going to be calling them from a landline, am I?

Complained. Say they can't supply a geographic number due to call routing, etc. Fair point, I know how that stuff works, but that doesn't stop them getting an 03 number put in place.

Rant over :)

  • Thanks.

Yes, I normally use sayno, but this one particularly annoyed me due to it being a number you would almost always have to call from a mobile.

Even on their own website they have multiple numbers:
    http://money.asda.com/breakdown-cover/existing-customer/

    0800 202 8100
    01689 891 063

If your concerned about calling an 0800 (or other freephone numbers) from your mobile then use a geographic to freephone number service like:

    0292 000 0800

Call the above number (as you see its geographic) and then you'll be told to enter the freephone number you want to call, type it in and it will then connect you through and obviously on your mobile the call is just to a geographic so included in packaged minutes etc

Surely this issue is with your mobile provider?

The fact they rip you off on 0800 is your choice. My tariff provides for free calls to 0800, why not switch?

I gather at long last OFCOM plan to insist 0800/0500 calls are free from mobiles. A nice idea if it pans put.

Which provider is that? Haven't found a mobile company that does.

You're right, I didn't spot the calling from Europe number and I know how to get round it, but my point still stands that it's bad practice on Asda's part not to put a 0800 followed by a "if calling from a mobile, call...".
  • A lot of companies still think providing an 0800 number is good practice and dont think of mobile phone users hence why I use the redirect to freephone number a lot
  • Also all this "we use 08 due to routing" is nonsense. You can get geographic numbers that do the same thing.
