Gas/Electricity Suppliers

Hi guys,

Quick question for you. I'm moving into my new house on the 3rd December (yay!). I'm going to be moving from my parents house so I'm not actually carrying over current gas/electricity suppliers.

Within the home report on the seller questionnaire it states 'unknown' next to the gas and electricity suppliers. How can I find out who currently supply this property and is it best to notify them in advance that I'll be moving in or is this best done on the arrival date?

Thanks in advance for your help, it's very much appreciated. :)

Danielle

Is this a repo you are buying? Else I'm not sure why the seller doesn't know who supplies them with their energy. You should get your solicitor to start asking some questions of the seller.

Anyway, quick answer to your quick question:
    http://cfe.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5534/~/who-are-my-electricity-and-gas-suppliers%3F

When you complete on the purchase, take meter readings, contact the supplier(s) and set up account(s)

If it's a repo, you should get the installations carefully checked out appropriate professionals before supply is resumed - you don't know what may be lurking.

    Good luck! :)
  • No, it's not a repo. I did wonder that too? I'm not sure why they wouldn't know.

    Thanks very much for that!

You cannot 'carry over' (i.e, transfer) accounts anyway. If the supplies currently exist, you are in a deemed contract with the existing supplier(s). and must first register with them before switching. A new account must be opened at a new property.
Probably because the vendor's solicitor is too idle to go back and ask the question again? Ask them or the EA to find out for you.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
