I am possibly being thick but.....
Where could I find info about the cheapest gas and electricty tarrifs if I am a brand new customer ? All the comparison sites require you to compare your previous bill to come up with figures.
Is it just a case of trying one and hoping it is ok ? and then after a year checking again ?

Put into the comparison site a notional useage for gas (20,000kwh) and electricity (3000kwh) and see what you get. Check the answer on the suppliers website.Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0

Are you sure there's no existing supplier? Builders normally nominate a chosen supplier for the whole development when they are being connected.0

It is rare for a property not to have a supplier, although it does happen occasionally. You will have taken on the previous owner/tenants supplier under what is known as a deemed contract. To find out your supplier, for gas contact Xoserve on 080706081524 (they have data for ~ 90% of homes), for electricity contact your local MPAS service (if you search the energywatch website you will find more info).
Most switching sites have a box you can tick with 'I don't know my usage' or something similar, you then pick if you are a low, medium or high user and bobs your uncle.0
