Do I new different home insurance for renting out my house

Hi,

I am trying to find out if I need to alter the type of home insurance I need.
I am about to buy my ex-wife out of her side of our house.
The market being as it is, I cannot sell the property except at a massive loss [61% since 2008].
I intend to ease the porperty out for a few years.
I have standard house contents & buildings insurance at the moment.
Do I need to buy something different, or more comprehensive due to the fact that it will be leased?

Any assistance offered will be most gratefully received ;-)

  • Are you renting it out or intending to sell a leasehold on it with you retaining the freehold?

As a Landlord you would need Landlord insurance rather than Home insurance. The market also offers a number of other products such as rent guarantee etc if you were interested in that sort of thing. A local broker will be able to advise (not swinton) or there are a fair few online brokers and direct insurers
