I received the renewal notice from EON for my home emergency cover (Heating, electricity and plumbing) and they want £25.50/month. I did some online search and found Insurance choice (IC) who want only £19/month to cover all that plus cooking system, roofiing, pest infestation...it sound too good to be true so I want to know if any one has used them before.

  • Curious as to why its an affiliate link you've posted?

Never heard of the seller nor the administrator CSS but the underwriter is Aegis who are a big player and I know UK General Insurance Ltd but they are a small specialist company.

  • Maybe you should edit the link. People may actually click it if someone is not earning brownie points from the click.

  • Do you really need to insure your roof/cooker/infestation? you can get boiler cover for only £12 including a yaerly service if you shop around.

Thanks for the reply..I deleted the link as seriously I have nothing to do with the company. The cover sounds good to me for the price. Yes infestation cover can be needed as I paid the councel £50 few years ago to clear a wasps nest on my kitchen window. I also used the plumbing cover couple of times over the year for blocked drains so to me an extra £7 amonth to cover every thing seems to be a very good deal...my only concern is how reliable is the company?
  • The underlying insurer is reliable (as any insurer is anyway). The main administrator I would argue is small as I've never heard of them but I've not been actively in personal lines for 2.5 years now.

The second named company whos exact involvement is a little unclear, I've met their directors a couple of years ago and they were OK and respected by one of my then colleagues. They certainly were aiming at the mass market end of the market rather than the ultra budget but of cause strategies can change
  • I have been dealing with Insurance Choice in my job on a daily basis for the last 4 ish years, albeit a different department form the one that would deal with your policy. I currently have Insurance that I purchased through them and am happy with the service I received.

£25.50 a month eg £306 a year is a lot for Emergency Cover, you have to remember Emergency Cover only pays claims for emergencies, it does not cover normal maintenance.

Over ten years you will pay them in excess of £3060.
