No matter what I do all my little frying pans become non non-stick after a few months. What am I doing wrong. My latest is a Tefal with a life time guarantee. Sadly the guarantee is only about the coating blistering or cracking not about the stickability.

Queenie has the answer bang on.
Never ever clean these things with anything that will scratch the base.

The Teflon (PTFE) coating is only microns thick so if you breach it with a scratch its toast.

What happens is that the scratch causes the coating to loose integrity (adhesion) and allows whatever you are cooking in it mix with the coating on a molecular level
    thereby knackering it up more.
This occurs as the scratch expands and contracts when the pan is heated. All very technical ;)

Great thing these powder coatings, as long as they are treated right.

I've just been inspecting my frying pans to find out the make but they're unmarked. :(

I've got catering ones with metal handles. They're heavyish and non-stick and are fantastic. They're the ones that Gary Rhodes and Jamie Oliver use, you can set them on fire, put them in the oven for 5 hours, leave them out to dry overnight and still get the gunk off with a normal dishbrush and fairy liquid.

I've tried Googling to no avail but if you know anyone in catering ask them what they use in their kitchens.
Just run, run and keep on running!

I use Meyer Anolon Professional Hard Anodized ones. Likewise, can put them in the oven (up to Mark 9/240C), on top of the hob, etc. I use metal and non-metal tools with them. I scrub them with scourers (not metal). I don't put them in the dishwasher. They simply won't stick. I have tried really hard, but nothing is difficult to clean off. Excellent pans.

Bet I could get them to stick for you. ;)

I have the Meyer Commercial Range, I manage to wreck my frying pan by dry frying when on yet another diet! They come with a lifetime guarantee but I think the way I have treated it, its probably void. Plus I am starting to get a bit bored with them now. They are also very heavy.

I was looking at some the other day, can't remember the make but they come with removable handles and can turn from saucepans to dutch ovens, and they stack inside each other. Looked quite nice.

My Tefal which I use at home is about five years old and still non-stick despite the coating being scratched and scraped and being washed in the dishwasher.

I've recently bought a cheapo from Asda for under £2 for using in the caravan and it has performed brill for 15 fried breakfasts, at that price you could by a new one every six months or so!

Well I just give up with them really. I bought a new pan today. Debenhams had a Tefal 26cm Thermal spot thingy pan for £9 (1/2 price). With an extra 20% off for cardholders I thought it was an ok price. I have already rubbed it with oil. Thought I would leave it overnight before using. Wish me luck.:)

Well, i used a tefal frying pan for many many years and its never caused me any problems. Dont have a dishwasher though so always wash in the sink with the rest of the stuff.

I decided to replace it this year and tescos had a pack of 3 "value" non stick pans for 4.99 or something. Bought them. They were useless, coating came off within a couple of weeks. But, for the cash i expected it. Now I use one of tescos more expensive (8quid in the sale recently) non stick pans.. 25inch i think. And its great. My missus has a similar pan which she`s used for the last 2 years without any problems.

You do have to be super careful with non-stick coatings. I think even if they are heated to too high a temperature it affects the coating also, from what I've been told anyway. I have a Tefal Therma spot one which I've had for about a year or so with no problems, use it for the occasional fry up, pancakes for the kids, corn fritters etc etc. No problems. Just give it a squirt of washing liquid and a mop out with a sponge and it's fine. Use a Le Creuset spatula or a nylon fish slice to take stuff out of it with no problems.
