Moving - new gas/electricity deal?

I'm moving house soon, and was wondering if the following is possible.

I'm currently with EON, but would it be possible to cancel the supply at my current address on the day we move, then use a cashback site to re-start at the new address?

I've never done this before, and always just called EON to tell them i'm moving and they sort the rest.

If it's possible, am I obliged to stay with EON?.. I take it they will try to keep me. I'm pretty sure I'm out of any contracts as I've been at the current address for well over a year.

No, you will be in a deemed contract with the existing supplier at the new address, you must take opening readings on day one and register with them for an account, once that's done you can commence a switch to Eon if you wish (and using a cashback site).
You can't transfer an account over from one property to the other, and attempts to switch before actually occupying the property invariably end in tears.
A house move voids your current minimum term contract (if applicable) without penalty.

Hmmm - "always just called called EON to tell them I'm moving and they sort the rest", is not the way changes of address & utility suppliers should be done, and EON have been breaking the rules if they have done this in the past

    Moveing out
On the day you vacate, take the Gas & Elec Meter readings and advise Eon of the date, the readings and your new address to which they should send your Final Bill - This also goes for the water
    Moveing in
Your new address will already have Utility suppliers for Gas/Elec/Water, and on the day you move in you will automatically be a customer of those suppliers and must advise those suppliers of your occupancy and the meter readings.
Once you have established an account with these Gas/Electric suppliers, you are free to Switch to others of your choice

There is a chance that the existing supplier to the new address is in fact EON, but you must still go through the proper process as above, and bear in mind that despite your past history with EON, at the new address they will treat you as a 'New Account' and put you on an expensive Standard tariff
