You can get a two week trial of DVDs through the post and get £2 via Greasypalm. However, don't be stupid (like me) :-[ and assume the account starts from when you receive the first DVD. It starts as soon as you register.
I've just been charged £9.51 for watching 3 DVDs. I wouldn't mind so much but my first choice weren't available and I ended up watching a couple I'd seen before.

Don't worry be happy you've just learnt a lesson for £9.51, not too bad. :-X
You ripped off yourself
Your first choices are always not available & you end up without choice & having'em.

Im not pleased with their service via TescoDvDrental. I cancelled my acc on the 11th but a DVD had been sent on the 10th. Still havent got it and if I dont return it before the 15th, I get charged the full monthly amount. I definitely wont be signing up with them, all the DVDs I got were the older ones. Blockbusters was much better and will be getting my custom instead."There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children; one of these is roots, the other wings" - Hodding Carter

My husband signed up for the DVD trial from Tesco/Video Island . We were not happy ! First they sent us 2 duplicated films (2 Finding Nemo) why on earth would someone send 2 at the same time ??? And the other film never turned up . We have had to send off a letter to them stating we never received it . They are slow to send films , slow to reply to emails . They are slow to update accounts to show returned films . I wouldnt touch them with a barge pole !
I have just done a trial for Netflix . This is an American based company that were going to launch in the UK . Unfortunatly they have put this on hold for now . Their service was FANTASTIC ! They were very fast at sending out films , had a great selection . You knew when films were in stock or if they had a waiting list . You always got the top 3 films from the rental queue unless it was out of stock . You could shuffle the film priority around . I would have definatly PAID to use their service . I was gutted when they sent me an email telling me that they are putting the UK launch back .0 -
Reading all this has got me worried and paranoid now ???
I signed up for the free 14 day trail almost 2 weeks ago - service has been fine.. watched approx 7 dvd's, received in 1-2 days and I sent them back and they got them no problem.
I even got my free spiderman 2 disc dvd set that they had promised for using the trial
Ive recently cancelled the trial and gonna send back my remaining dvd's tomorrow. It does state on the site that you get 7 days to send your dvd's once you opt to cancel, so they should get them. Plus I cancelled with still 2 days remaining in my trial to be safe.
Hope I don't get charged! I'll let you know what happens.
Was very impressed with my free spiderman dvd set though - it was 2 discs!if i had known then what i know now0 -
I can't see what the problem is either. Like any contract you need to understand the terms.
For those who didn't know when their trial started/ended why didn't you just look at your Account? From your Rental List click on:
"Account Home", then either "Billing History" or "Service Status".
As for ending the trial - when you are sending the last discs back delete everything from your rental list to stop them sending out more. Stands to reason.
I have found them pretty efficient. As with all these companies you need to put lots of DVDs on your list to make sure you get quick turnaround, otherwise you might have to wait.
For those still getting caught out I suggest the excellent site http://www.dvdtrials.co.uk
As well as listing every rental company (26) with all the free trials (20) they highlight the small print involved in canceling such as whether you need to have returned all the discs by the date you want to cancel.0 -
I'm really pleased with the service, apart from the free DVD which had no postage (£1.05 down). I figure I'll stay in it over winter- I love foreign films & they have a great selection especially Spanish. These are probably not that popular as they arrive straight away. Also - I just watched Casablanca through for the first time.
Good for Saturday nights before 10.30!Nice to save.0
