Paint colour

Giving the spare bedroom a bit of a spruce up and want a neutral, light and airy look, so magnolia was my first thought. I know this is the 'colour of choice' on programmes like Homes Under The Hammer and I do agree it looks nice and clean but I fancy something a bit different but with the same look, if you know what I mean :D Got some nice metallic wallpaper from Next for a 'feature wall'. Anyone got any ideas ?

why don't you take a bit of wallpaper take it to homebase or builders merchants with a paint scanner and get them to scan the background colour and get emulsion mixed in that colour

With that wallpaper I'd say there are only two choices-get a match to the background colour (as posted above) or match to the pattern colour. Background colour would look better due to the wallpaper itself,I think.

I can't stand magnolia, beige or cream so can't give any other advice really!

  • I would not match the background colour exactly, it will just look like 3 walls got the cheap paper with the pattern missing.

    Go lighter or darker.

  • We painted our hallway and lounge in Homebase Contempory which is a bit lighter than magnolia and we really like it.

We also used Homebase Silver Mist for our bedroom paired with a Next Metalic Wall Paper which was a white background with blue and silver metalic pattern and the feature wall brings out a slight blue tinge to the paint which looks good.

I know this is the 'colour of choice' maybe for developers or btl's (its cheap!! and minging!), magnolia is like going into a 90 year old smokers house!! And as such should be deleted from colour history on programmes like Homes Under The Hammer and I do agree it looks nice and clean but I fancy something a bit different but with the same look, if you know what I mean :D Got some nice metallic wallpaper from Next for a 'feature wall'. And i dont care who i offend, if you personally choose magnolia you have as much taste as john mcurryick! (sorry cant even begin to spell his name!)

Calico, natural calico all the way (or natural hessian, depends on wallpaper!)! Its the newer magnolia and doesnt look like tar stains!

Personally with your paper, would looke at the crown suede paints. Think it could look really good! Though it is a pain to do!

I like magnolia. Friends have done the loft in primrose (yellow), very nice too. Some of my walls are in natural calico (Dulux), which I like, but I prefer almond stone which I have in my sitting room, it's a little more yellow, very similar. Apparently natural calico is very popular. Then again anything light is nice. I am told that Dulux light and shade paint does lighten rooms.

I won't join in the insults of John Mcwotsit, I don't like to kick someone when they are down.

I have metallic striped paper in my bedroom and painted the walls a soft dove grey. It looks fab. I'd definitely step away from magnolia.
