As the title says, just wondered if it was easy to do. Found a link on the sky user forums and it looks relativly easy to do.

  • Yes, I changed mine to a Netgear router I already had without any problems.
You just need to Google how to extract your login name and password from the sky router and enter it into your new router.
If you need to speak to Sky tech support in the future you may need to change it back as they only support their own routers.

It might not be as simple as that as I have read sky are rolling out a new authentication method called MER which is more technical to get round involving custom firmwares for some routers where dhcp client options can be manually set to match sky routers. I believe this is particularly a problem on sky fibre broadband.

They are indeed, even my old Netgear DG834GT had a firmware upgrade to MER (well after the initial upgrade failed and I had to flash the router back to the original firmware from the CD.. long phone call to Sky CS that)

It really is simple. When I use my Netgear, the first hop goes to a different node than when using the Sky supplied Sagem and it is assigned a completely different IP address range.
