Hi Everyone,
I'm new on here tonight, I just wondered if anybody could help me with some advice as to how to get Halifax to reduce bank account charges?
My situation got out of control late last year when I made the mistake of taking out a payday loan. This soon lead to me having a pay day loan both with Wonga and Payday UK. I was struggling to make any minimum payments and was having to take out two payday loans each month to survice. Things came to a head in November last year when due to a personal crisis I was signed off from work with anxiety and depression.
Part of this was my financial situation. I had two current accounts with Halifax (which I no longer used) both in their overdraft and therefore both charging me interest. I had a credit card also with Halifax and a credit card with M&S and the two payday loans.
I was still in my arranged overdarft with halifax however due to all the charges I knew I would soon be into an unarranged overdraft and be charged £5.00 per day on each of the accounts - ie £10 a day! In November I rang Halifax in order to try and prevent this happening and set up a repayment plan. They told me to call collections. I called and the lady was very rude and basically just said that the account hadnt been passed to collections yet and therefore I had to wait until it had until they could do anything - ie get into worse debt before they could help! She said it was my debt and I should deal with it!
I was very upset and wrote to them in January to explain this telephone call and suggest a repayment plan of £20.00 per month on each account. They did not reply. I again wrote to them in March. By this time I had gone over my arranged over draft and they were charging me £5 a day. Between 1st December and 2nd March 2012 I received 871.00 worth of bank charges over the two accounts.
They then wrote and advised that I contact CCCS and set up a DMP which i have done. My payments started in April and finally as of September Halifax are recognising the payment plan set up.
I have managed tp pay off my payday loans thanks to CCCS and i am now paying off my debt.
However what I really need advice on is the £871.00 worth of charges I received in 3 months. To me this seems excessive and unfair and I wondered if anyone had had any success in challenging Halifax's chargfes and getting them reduced and/or written off? If so, which department is the best to approach?
thank you v much for reading

Even the OFT didn't have any success in attempting to challenge the fairness of bank charges.0
