I've used the costco own label and find it very good, and very cheap for the amount you get. I've kept the big plastic tub it comes in and refilled it recently with 2 big boxes from lidl, and that works out cheaper still, around £8.
I hate having to put the dryer on when it's raining though. it uses so much electric.

donna, I've skip-read this thread so I hope I'm not repeating anything already posted :o

but I think the 'recipe' you're looking for is ...

*1 pack washing soda crystals +
same weight of a branded or good own brand powder +
same weight of a value powder

mix together & use half recommended amount (depending of course on how heavily soiled the load is)

I have 2 mixes, 1 for the colours which is 1 part soda + 2 parts own brand colour powder (can't find a value colour powder) & the other for whites which is as the *recipe above using a good own brand bio as well as the value one

there are a whole lot of threads about it, but I don't have time to look for them right now as I have to go out (that notorious search 'function') but maybe another kind OS'r could point you in the right direction for more info :)
