Hi
Just incase this is of interest to anyone. I made my last batch of w.p. but decided to go back to the above formula.
My Sainsburys are selling their packets of Perform Mega pearls at £1.12 an 810 gram box.
I bought one of the above, a cheapie box 50 p and washing soda 56p - it made loads of powder.
I may go back today and stock up even though money is tight at the moment!:)

Can I just ask - do you use this for washing powder and if so does it work well. Would you mind giving me the full instructions? ThanksOctober Grocery Challenge £4000

Well I learned about it off here so I am not the expert. It goes like this. You buy one box of your expensive brand (whatever takes your fancy - I still buy the cheapest Surf/Daz/whatever) you then mix that with one box of the economy brand. Saisburys, Tesco, Morrisons etc all produce one. Added to that mix one bag of washing soda.
I found it washes just as well. Saves a lot of money too. HTHGrocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

If you are usinh fabric softner you are putting a layer of plastic on your clothes........distilled vinegar is much better and cheaper............

I normally mix cheap washing powder with soda, i dont bother with the expensive one, and it always makes my clothes clean (except DSs socks!!!! but even the most expensive powder would have trouble with those!!!)
I put a couple of capfulls of vinegar into the fabric softener compartment at the normal time, any smell dissapears when the washing dries!!!!0 -
i'm sorry but i like my washing to smell nice....vinegar really wouldnt do it for me....
Any other suggestions how to make my washing smell fresh other than fabric conditioner?
I know line drying does but in winter or rainy days?Plus Ive 4 kids thats alot of washing.I dont like hard towels either so i tumble them0 -

The clothes only smell a little of vinegar when you take them out of the WM. The smell disappears when the clothes are dry. I know a few people on here add a couple of drops of essential oil, such as lavender, to the conditioner compartment along with the vinegar.0 -
The thing is unless you have access to cheap vinegar, then it costs as much if not more than fabric softener. I like the smell of it too, but do not use on towels.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
