I like my washing to smell nice too, so my mixture is equal parts of the following, Bold, Bettabuy and washing soda - I mix 3 kgs of each in a huge tub. I don't use fabric conditioner, only to hand rinse underslips & tights to prevent static. Vinegar is only helpful as a softener if you live in a hard water area ( I live in Yorkshire and the water is very soft here, so I don't need it). Hope this helps.

I like the essential oils idea, but rather than put in vinegar I may douse an old rag with it to put in my drier as Ive lots of lavendar.I put it on my car air fresheners as well.Lavendars only oil I burn that seems to freshen my house over doggy smells.

Hi, this is my first time posting on here so I don't know if the subject of wash balls has already been raised. You don't need washing powder or fabric conditioner with these gizmos. I wouldn't use them if the laundry was really minging though i.e. my son's socks!

I too live in Yorkshire (between Pontefract and Doncaster) and our water is very hard. The scale we get in the kettle has to be seen to be believed!
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

Bummer! Sounds like you need to use the vinegar then. Or move house!

Forgot to ask, when you use your HM powder, what quantities do you put into the washing machine?
    Thanks

    I use 3 tablespoons (45ml) for a full load, and 2 tablespoons (30ml) for a half load.
