Case? Final? Ebay has got to be kidding me! Please help.

Hi guys, Im very angry and upset at this moment in time.

I sold a DSLR camera son ebay for a good enough price of £285.

All was well and the buyer never contacted me UNTIL a week later.

The buyer said they had taken the camera on holiday and the brighter images had come out with slight blurs on even though in darker photos they were fine. They opened a case stating this and i replied recommending a few things such as clear the lens etc.

I said i would not refund as they have had the item for over a week before contacting me and have used it.

So i was nice all along and helped as much as i can.

Now ebay have finalised the case and want me to issue a refund. Really?! After somebody has used the camera possibly damaged it and scratched it, now i have to accept it back and give them a full refund. Surely theres something i can do? Im very genuine 100% positive seller / buyer.

Very upset.

  • i'm afraid there's nothing you can do. say you would like the item returned in its original condition and sent via a postal service that covers the cost of the item....that will cost the buyer. once you receive the item and if it's not in the condition you sent it to them in then contact ebay and tell them this. Could be the person has a faulty one and is trying to swap. You can mention this to ebay. wait til you receieve it and have a look at it and also check and see if it has the problem the seller stated.
basically you have to do what ebay say and unfortunately they tend to side with buyers

This is shocking, To think i could buy a camera from ebay take it on holiday, take some great photos, possibly drop it or damage it and then open a car on ebay and get my money back swell as some great pictures.

    Im so frustrated and upset.

    Thank you for the reply.

Shocking as this might seem, there could actually be a fault with the camera and it is only right that the buyer can get a refund.

Complaining that they've used it is a bit redundant, how else is a buyer supposed to discover whether it is in working condition? Have you asked if they can email you a picture with an example of the blur?

True, it could actually be faulty. If not, welcome to the world of retail!

I think any advice about asking for copies of pictures and anything else to do with the camera are a bit redundant as Ebay have already asked you to refund. So you're stuck with asking for it back and refunding.

Previous advice would have depended on whether it was new, fixed price or auction. How did you approach the initial complaint and then the subsequent Ebay complaint?

    Chances are either:

    A) buyer is a cr*p photographer and doesn't know how to use it, or

    B) buyer has swapped it for a broken one.

I'd reply, asking them to return it tracked, and once you've checked the serial number and security marking to verify it's the correct camera, you'll refund them.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Or C) The camera is actually faulty?
As someone else said, the only way someone would discover a fault would be when they use it.
If a buyer came on here saying they had spent nearly £300 on a camera that didn't work properly & the seller had refused a refund, everyone on here would be telling them to open a case!
