In the first two years after passing the driving test people are five times more likely to have an accident than at any other time in their driving career (Offical DSA figures), to try and reduce this the Pass Plus course was introduced.
The whole idea of doing a Pass Plus course is not to get cheaper insurance but to give people that have recently passed their driving test more advanced experience of driving, thus giving them more confidence of situations and motoring conditions and building on the basics they get while learning to drive.
OK so maybe some would say it is expensive, it costs approximately £150 (six hours at £25 per hour depending on the instructors hourly rate), is that expensive when it is a one off expense that gives people valuable experience and may help to reduce any accidents in the future.
The reduction in insurance is an added incentive for people to do the Pass Plus course, it is a bonus and should not be treated as the reason for doing the course.0 -

Its an OPTIONAL thing, if it was so important then maybe it should be incorporated in with the main test. Anyway its only 6 hours of driving, hows that going to give you all the experience you will need for every situation you will ever encounter? Can the instructor magic up some snow and ice so one knows how to drive on it? Can he also magic up fog too???
The only way to get experience is to drive, and watch other experienced drivers. And yes the lady in the avatar is me

2. The only way to get experience is to drive, and watch other experienced drivers.
1. Where in my post did I say that? I stated that the DSA brought Pass Plus in to give the newly qualified driver MORE experience and confidence, and I explained the reasoning behind the course.
2. You are welcome to your opinions, but as the OP is a newly qualified driver and was concerned and worried about driving on her own with children in her car, I was trying to encourage her to get more experience by suggesting as an option that she could do the course.
Yes it is optional, but it can help a lot of newly qualified nervous drivers to gain more confidence.0 -
OP dopnt let it put you off, like said beore you just need time to gain confidence in yourself and your ability to drive
I was exactly the same when i first passed ( jan 2006) and i dont think i felt really confident til about 6 months later !! lol
Even now i make mistakes,of course i do im sure every driver does at some point, although they may not admit it
i was scared to drive with the kids in the car at first and was a bit freaked out at going from learning in a small car ( corsa), to having a big car (A4) but you do get used to it and just need to practice, practice, practice
Hope you are feeling a bit better about it now and getting out there and enjoying driving0 -
thankfully had no more incidents, but when I am in the car when dh is driving I am much more nervous then pre passing my test. Dh is always telling me off for pressing my 'brakes' when he his driving lol
thanks for all the responses, made me feel much better x0 -
My OH stresses me out when I'm driving even though I passed 1st time & he didn't.
I drive fine without him, even with the kids in the car that never shut up, when he drove on the motorway with us all last week he went over cats eyes numerous times! If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in0
