Had my letter from Atlantic today informing me of the price rise. I'm on a credit tariff though.

They also stated that they are dropping the 'No standing charge' and also the higher rate for the first amount of energy used.

They now will have a standing charge and a 'one 'price' charge for energy units used.

It will also be fixed for the next year.

I shan't bother to look around, so I'll just stay with them. Over the next few months they will all even out.

With nearly 40% being used on cheap rate it's very unlikely that you'd be better off on single rate tariff-the break point is typically around 33% but often lower, depending on supplier. As above, the comp site will reveal all.

If you think Eon offer a fixed rate tariff for prepayment customers, ask them what the exact name of that tariff is, post the name here and see if you can find any reference to it on the Eon website.

Atlantic are owned by SSE (Scottish & Southern Energy) - a different Company to Scottish Power entirely. :)

Thanks I wasnt aware they are a different company. Lol.

The tariff we would be going on is the prepayment economy 7 and she said they are freezing prices til 31st dec 2012. The only other prepayment tariff is a standard one I believe (12.12 per unit before VAT or something along those lines). Is there a chance she was lying? about it being fixed? :o I am just so confused about the best thing to do right now! I am on atlantic but have signed up to eon (said can take up to 4 weeks to receive key etc) so do I stay with one of these or go elsewhere?!! Arrrrgggghhhh :rotfl:

Whats a credit tariff? I believe you are on a different one to me then as I have different unit costs for night and day as opposed to a certain cost for the first so many units used then price changes after that??

The person I spoke to never mentioned anything about the standing charge on atlantic, if this will be the case on mine then they will work out even more expensive!!

  • I have just been on uswitch and on there it says the plan is Eon energy plan with prepayment. It is saying it is a variable tariff but eon have promised not to increase prices this year. This is what I was told so great.

What I am wondering though what is a variable tariff as far as prepayment electric is concerned? I am guessing this is what I am on with atlantic as I have never been on a fixed rate except for the occasion when they have said they wont put prices up (which hasnt been often) lol.

    Thanks!

A credit tariff is the normal pay after receiving a bill.

A variable tariff is one that is not fixed or capped and can be increased.

E.on promised that they will not put up prices again this year so January looks good for an increase then.

The problem you have is that you are currently with the lead sheep, the first to increase. And like sheep all the rest will follow shortly so by moving you are only likely to save until January when you may have to look at moving again when prices have settled.
  • Yes I believe they will likely put the prices up but will they increase by approx 23% as I believe this is what eon would be likely to increase by to be as high priced as atlantic. I have been told it is unlikely they will put up immediately come january as a lot of customers will be on a rolling contract and they would then be likely to move and so eon to lose customers. Not sure how true all the above is and if a price increase would be that high (the last increase they had on electric was approx 11%)

'Credit tariff' = one with a credit meter, as opposed to a PM.
