Tesco Car insurance (or not)

Until 31 July when I retired, I was a Driving Instructor. I had to have specialist car insurance and I did, in my name, not in the name of the driving school.
I took out private motorist car insurance from 3 Aug with Tesco, saying I had 9 years+ no claims. When I sent them the letter from my previous broker (designated authority from Aviva, my insurers, who do not issue these themselves) Tesco said it was not acceptable cos it didn't show I had sole use of the car. It didn't matter that 30 pupils a week *and* I hadn't claimed on the insurance, and Tesco have threatened to cancel my car insurance.
I have contacted a number of other big insurers since who are very happy to take this letter as proof of NCB but not Tesco.
If I cancel the insurance myself they will charge me £30 so I am just letting it run out when they give me the date.
I think this is appalling and have written a letter of complaint to Tescobank but I won't hold my breath for a change of heart.
On every application for an insurance quote there is a question "have you had any insurance refused or cancelled" so does anyone know if this action by Tesco, when resolved, will go against me in the future?
Thanks

Yes, virtually all insurers will ask if you have had a policy ever cancelled by an insurer.
You will have to answer "yes". As soon as you do, then most off the peg insurers will refuse to quote you.
£30 is a cheap price to pay not to have to say "yes"!
(It may be that your proof has been issued by a broker that isn't acceptable to Tesco, and an untrained agent has wrongly told you it's to do with you not being the "sole user".)0
