Anti-persperant deodorant?

Can anyone help me with some recommendations?
I am after a deodorant that doesnt-
a) take an age to dry
b) works! :D
c) doesnt leave my underarms resembling a snow storm AND
d) doesnt sting or 'burn' me.

I am not blessed when it comes to this matter, am not always sweet smelling (or so I think).
Feel very self conscious, and short of saving up and having botox would like to try and resolve this myself.

  • Mitchums dry stick is pretty good. I used to love Natrel. What happened to Natrel?

Out of all the 'regular' easily available deodorants, I find Sure roll-on works quite well. Put it on first thing, and by the time I've got undies and trousers on, it's dry to put my top on. I didn't find the Mitchum roll ons any more effective really.

I really like the 'Maximum Protection' version both Sure and Dove do, its a sort of new way of using deoderant, your supposed to apply it once a day at night and it gradually (and pretty quickly) reduced your sweating where sprayed. You can apparently shower with it and it stays put but have to reapply each night before bed.

I have tried the Mitchum deoderant which sadly didn't work for me. I sweat a lot. I get night sweats alot and often wake up drenched and have to wash, change sheets and etc before going back to bed so when using the Mitchum it was pretty much no match for me, I still would sweat but it just seemed to turn my sweat into a horrible gooeyy sticky gel. Not something I want to repeat! It may well work with sweat on a lesser level but it didn't work for me.

I also wanted to add that with the ...smell issue, the biggest influence you have over that is what you eat. If you eat things which have a strong or 'hot' taste (so with things like curries, stir-fries with lots of sauce, sweet and sour, chillies...etc) its the herbs or bulbus vegetables (onions, garlics....etc) which then seem to make sweatting smell far worse. If you know the next day is going to be one where you think your going to sweat more, say your booked up for an exercise class or the weather will be much warmer then usual maybe you could experiment with cutting out the stronger tasting foods and see how it goes.

I used to love Natrel too! Boots used to do a pink one and a blue one, if I remember right but I haven't seen it in ages.

These days I try to use deodorant rather than anti-perspirant, but when I do need one I find the Dove anti-perspirants are ok.
  • I am using sure atm, but sometimes find I'm sweating thro before it actually dries! Use their fast drying one when in a hurry, but it stings like crazy when I put it on. The regular sure is ok but it has awful smell if I sweat much (not your normal bo smeLl but like a rank mix of smells)
Is the max strength deo likely to take layers off my skin? The only prob with using it regularly is I work mixture of 12 hour days and nights so wouldn't be able to use it every single night.
Hmmm, why was I made in such a way that simple tasks like smelling sweet and being smooth is such hard work for me!:(:(

You could be perspiring a lot due to stress..? I used to find when I did an awful, stressful job that even wearing anti-perspirant didn't prevent me from sweating.

If it isn't stress, and you find the problem is getting bad, it might be worth mentioning to your GP? They may be able to prescribe you something to put on your underarms which would be stronger or more effective than the normal over-the-counter deodorants.

Soap & glory's Glad Pits (spray) or One Pit Wonder (roll on) are both good.

I use a crystal deodorant. Works great and last for ages and ages and ages and ages.

  • I use the max protection sure deo. It took me a while to get into the habit of putting it on before I went to bed and I still give my underarms a blast of 'normal' deo before I get dressed - it's a habit thing and not necessary though.
