Newbie question re bt

Hi

I currently have a Co-op Bank Travel Visa card - 0% over 7 months.

Whatever balance i have left at the end of the period, i want to transfer to a 0% balance transfer offer.

Having read Martin's article on balance transfers it suggests switching 6 weeks prior to your current cards offer running out.

I was accepted for my current card at the beginning of Dec, so does that mean my 0% for 7 months runs from then Dec to May or from the date of my first statement which was 05.01.05, therefore meaning the offer will run out in June.

Sorry for what seems like a pretty basic question, but have searched the articles and forums.

Hopefully someone can help
Cheers

In my experience (and of reading these forums) its the date your signed acceptance was received by the card company.

However, for the definitive answer, why not contact the card provider by e-mail (secure if possible). That way you'll have written proof if you get any problems later.

I'm not sure of the answer but I usually ring up to find out or depending on which card it is they display it on internet banking.

My Travel Card was paid off within the 7 month period & then a couple of months later I got a statement (I still use it as a quasi-cashback card) giving the end date of my promo rate 3 months later than expected!

Pretty sure with the Co-op you have until the statement due date following the expiry of the 7 months to clear the BT in full & avoid paying interest.

'Fraid when I rang up the call centre operative couldn't give me a date.

Rang them yesterday with 3 dates, 7 months from

    1. Date of acceptance
    2. Date of first transaction on card
    3. Date of first statement

Operator said it was from date of first statement, so i had worked out the exact date 7 months later and just said oh this would make it the 20th of July and he said 'yeah sometime in the middle of july', so just have to set my 'tart alert' now

    Thanks for all replies
