Car Insurance Quote - 2 fixed penalties

Right not sure if there is anything I can do about this...
I have 2 SP60 speeding offences. One from 4 and a half years ago and the other from 5 months ago. I notice that insurance companies need to know any offences within the last 5 years so I will have to declare both of these for my policy to remain valid. The cheapest company I have found so far is SwiftCover and I have noticed the following:
- If I declare each individual offence on its own the policy does not increase at all.
- If I declare both offences, the policy jumps up by about £100!!!
So even though one of the offences will not exist in 6 months I still have to pay an extra £100. I have just come off the phone to them and they say that as soon as you have 2 penalties the computer will atomatically increase your premium to a much higher level irrelevant of the date.
Is there anything I can do to avoid paying this extra premium? Seems crazy that the date is not taken into consideration. Or does anybody know of any insurance companies that only require penalties from say the last 3/4 years?
Any help would be much appreciated

The date is taken into consideration....the first offence was less than 5 years ago.0

If you have 2 penalties you are regarded as a far higher risk that someone who has just the 1 as you obviously didnt learn from the first one and are so statistically more likely to offend again.Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0

I tell you what I had a little bet with someone that there would be sarcastic comments and oh dear what a surprise 3 saints appear from nowhere who do charity work in their spare time and probably read the highway code each night before they go to bed.
IF YOU HAVE NOTHING CONSTRUCTIVE TO SAY THEN DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL.
For your information I have done over 35000 miles for the last 8 consecutive years and believe me when you travel all over the country it is difficult to know sometimes that a road that looks like it should be a 40 is actually a 30. Also, I have never been caught at more than 10mph over the actual speed limit.
The point of my comments were if you read them again properly. Just say your 5 year fine finished tomorrow....If you wanted to take out the insurance for today then you would have to pay an extra £100 which to me seems ridiculous. Why oh why to people have to come on here preaching. Do you think i don't regret having 6 points on my licence? Ijust posted a genuine question about insurance companies that may only include the last 3/4 years and instead get stupid comments back from people in this supposedly friendly forum. Thanks a lot.0 -
I just renewed my insurance with Prudential and I think they only wanted to know about offences in the last 3 years. I think LloydsTSB were the same. I can't remember for sure, but it might be worth checking out.
Hope that helps.0 -
Hi - Lloyds TSB are my current insurers and ask for convictions in the last 5 years. My daughter and I have both had 2 speeding convictions.Liverpool Victoria do not load for speeding convictions unless you were disqualified but were only competitive for my cover.Mr daughter who was under 25 at the time got a price from motorquotedirect and the convictions did not seem to increase the premium at all.Suggest you give them both a try.
Best of luck! Hope this rather more helpful than some of the other replies..........0 -

I was not preaching I am sorry if it appeared that way. i was merely pointing out the reason why the insurers have loaded your premium like this for having 2 convictions, that you are statistically a higher risk and they are charging you according to that risk. its insurance fact, not preaching. i personally dont care how many points anyone has!! In fact I have 3 points myself.
Sorry if i was appearing holier than thou but that was not my intention. My intention was to you information as to why they had done what they did.
Oh yes and I do have to have extensive knowledge of the highway code and insurance for my job!

Shame you didn't bet £100...then you could pay the extra this year without complaint....you done the crime...do the time.
Just 10 mph over the speed limit?....have you seen the adverts for the difference in injury/survival rates between 30 mph & 40 mph impacts on pedestrians?0 -

True, but OP states that they were both SP60 offences. There isn't much difference between hitting someone at 70 and hitting someone at 80, 85, 90.
Edit: my mistake, SP60 isn't necessarily a motorway offence - it's an "Undefined speeding offence"
JamesP, I can't really advise on any insurance companies to check out, and I don't mean to threadjack but I did find this article which states that SP60 offences are actually quite rare. Would you mind outlining the circumstances of yours?0 -

Yeah sure, both times I was caught doing about 58mph on a motorway when there were roadworks and the speed was temporarily reduced to 50mph. Also, one of the times is was about 11:30p.m and although no excuse the motorway was empty.
P.S - Labman - which bit of this did you not understand:
IF YOU HAVE NOTHING CONSTRUCTIVE TO SAY THEN DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL
Your comments do not really aid to answering my (and I'm sure many others in my situation) question.
P.P.S - Sorry, Ice if I took your comments out of context.0
