Wago boxes and connectors

I've managed to cut straight through my lighting circuit (turns out that it runs under my kitchen floor!).

I've connected both ends into a Junction box as a temporary solution but I'm aware that I a more permanent solution being that it's under floor and will eventually be tiled over. I'm interested in using Wago connectors as an alternative to crimping and soldering - has anyone got any experience of these?

Also, can any recommend which parts I need to get to connect 2 ends of a 3 core lighting circuit together?

Have used them. They're OK, I just prefer crimping for inaccessible locations. There are other solutions but this:

    plus these

    should do it.

  • Nice one, thanks for the info. I fancy giving them a try so I'll see how I get on.

If you've cut through the wire, make sure there is sufficient length for the single point entry box. If not, I believe they have an in-line arrangement.

I have used these and they were excellent, maintenance free designed for inaccessible places.

A bit strange to use in that (I think, its been a while) you had to push down the bit on the block against the spring, insert the wire and then release the pressure, certainly grabs it solidly when put in right.
  • Thanks for the help. The marketers of those Ashley boxes must have been struggling for selling points when they wrote 'fits nicely in the hand' :-)

:rotfl: not very sexy are they? perhaps they should do designer colours to match your joists, the spiders would appreciate it.

Are Wago really Maintenance Free as they didnt comply when I last checked? The Ashley boxes are compliant for maintenance free under 526.3 of BS7671.

I was interested to find out so I 'live chatted' them through the website. They are working towards maintenance free certification but don't yet have it.
Looking at the product, it has everything required apart from the MF stamp. I'd happily use them in my own home but strictly speaking they probably shouldn't be used in non-accessible areas.
Like I said though, I prefer crimps.

Thanks, yeh I rate them highly (although a crimp with a decent pair of ratchet crimpers is better , soldered joints even more but who learns to solder anymore ;) )

For those wanting to crimp connections you want one of these

    not one of these

As they are so similar to the Ashley and Line range I dont know why they dont just put a MF stamp on them.
