Missing credit card transaction

Hi

First time poster....
18 days ago I purchased an item of jewellery on my barclaycard in store, but after I entered my pin in the terminal the store assistant informed me that the till had crashed. After playing around trying to fix the computer she then apologised and wrote me out a paper receipt.

The transaction has never appeared as a pending transaction on my account and the money still hasn't been taken.

My question is:

Given that my personal details were not taken and the receipt was not generated by the till, does this mean this has slipped through the net or should I expect the charge to appear within the next year on my credit card transaction summary?

Thanks

I doubt it'll slip through the cracks but paper based transactions can take a while although in Jewellery store you would have expected they would have called for authorisation.
  • It will probably go through. If they are unable to process it, or the transaction goes through but you successfully dispute it, then you'd be left with a personal debt for which they could chase you for - through the courts if necessary. They'd get six years to do this.

(Not suggesting this is your plan, just for completeness!)

Echo what chattychappy said, and also:

If they have your card number / expiry date / CSC then they can put the transaction through as 'card holder not present'.

If they haven't taken ANY personal details, as you mention, then how are they likely to locate you to persue the debt ?

If the amount is big however it may well be worth them going to extra measures to reclaim the amount.
