walls covered in lining paper-repair?

When we bought our house it had been professionally decorated, imcluding the bedroom where the uneven walls had been expertly covered in lining paper so that they looked smooth and no sign of the paper at all.Due to a recent leak in the roof(,now repaired,)water has seeped in,and stained the walls and caused the lining paper to show and come away, you can now see the join in a small area.I can repaint the room, but can i repair the damage without getting professionals in to re do the whole room?

our lounge has lining paper and we had a few imperfections, we simply covered the area with smooth powder filler, once it dries, you can lightly rub/blend it in and paint over. We've done this where there have been air bubbles - we simply cut them out, applied the filler and painted. Also where we removed coving, there was of course a gap between the paper and ceiling, so we simply applied the filler, slightly overlapping the paper, rubbed it down and painted. You wouldn't notice we'd done anything so it's worked for us.0

Jenny is right, you can cut it out,but the best way to do it is to sort of tear the offending bit, so it leaves like a jagged edge all round the bad bit.
Before you fill using powder filler(dont use the quick drying one) get an old bit of sand paper and sand these jagged bits so they are a bit more smooth, then fill, when dry sand it down gently, run over hand over it, if it still feels indented do it again.
Reason I say tear the paper, cause its easier to fill that than a straight cut bit.
Also, before you paint the whole wall again, you would have to treat the stain that has seeped through cause of the leak, or it will bleed thru your lovely new coat of paint.
So get some cheapo oilbased undercoat, and put that on every inch of the stain, leave to dry then paint with your emulsions as normal.
Also, forgot to add, before you actually repaint your wall, dab some emulsion on the filled lining paper before you roll,2-3 times, this will avoid the filler lifting onto your roller, and stop the filler flashing thru your coat of paint.:D0
