walls covered in linings paper-repair?

When we bought our house it had been professionally decorated,imcluding the bedroom where the uneven walls had been expertly covered in lining paper so that they looked smooth and no sign of the paper at all.Due to a recent leak in the roof(,now repaired,)water has seeped in,and stained the walls and caused the lining paper to show and come away,you can now see the join in a small area.I can repaint the room,but can i repair the damage without getting professionals in to re do the whole room?
