Any good uses for used quilt/duvets?

We've boughts some new winter duvets.

What uses are there for the used ones?

I don't really like to put them in for landfill.

Do the re-cycling centres make use of them?

Some pet sanctuaries might take them for bedding. If you have any local dog or cat rescue centres, you might try there, or you could post on freecycle.

Cats homes like them. The cats they rescue use old towels/duvets etc when they're first received and on the road to recovery.
  • Update:

My local Air Ambulance shop took them off me. They were very grateful of them.

I often wonder what to do with old duvets so thank you for this thread. Throughout the year I put ours on the washing line and spray with Febreze to air it but it is cheaper to buy a new one than to take it to the local launderette to wash it. Much more 'green' to be able to donate the old one.

If you buy the ones that are made of two duvets buttoned together (sometimes called "all seasons") you can stick them in a domestic washing machine.......separately, of course.

I pop mine under my fitted sheet to give a little additional softness. It seems to make the bed feel a little cosier as well.:)
