That Focus heater control problem again !

Managed to get the radio out, and the hot/cold control is connected to the control unit by a 3 inch metal wire that has a loop on it. Thought it was just a case of putting it back on-but won't stay on. Anyone know how it stays on, or if wire follows a certain route.tried googling...but just get loads of american sites- help on a link might help- nearly their- Help !
