Swinton Insurance representative

I have been doing the old Home insurance quote marathon and got what i thought was a great deal from swinton online. The local office rang to explain that they would be sending out a credit agreement for me to sign and to pop it back in the office. I queried at that point a question on the policy about home working. I said i would pop in with the paperwork the next day and sort out any queries.
I did this and talked to a woman who was polite and rang up head office to clarify my questions. as it turned out the policy wouldnt cover what i required and i would have to cancel.
The policy wasnt due to start until the end of the month but the woman apologetically explained that they would have to charge me £25 for cancelling UNLESS i took out another policy through them. "we may be able to waver it " she added.
My gripe is not the charge nor the companies right to charge but the bare faced lies this woman was telling me.
I came away leaving her to look around for another quote and rang swinton up. and it was here her deception was exposed. There is NO charge for cancelling before the start date
I cancelled the policy over the phone.
The woman rang me up a couple of hours later and was apologetic at the apparent mix up. her excuse... that swinton had not sent down the new scripts yet and she was informed to tell people that there is a charge. I questioned her on this ..
Are you telling me that swinton are asking you to lie to customers?
"yes" just until the new scripts come down. What can i do?
try doing the right thing I answered, the honest thing...
talk about annoyed... i reckon she was after the commission but instead has lost forever mine and my families business. ..

I'll never use Swintons again either.
After a phone call about a car insurance claim, they went through all the options that could make them money.
When it became apparent they couldnt make any, they told the claimant to call the company they were insured with direct.0 -
joshua. Given that she knew what she was saying was incorrect and thus a lie. (dont forget she admitted that she had been told to lie) this was not a mistake but a clear misrepresentation of the terms and conditions.. a mistake i can except, bare faced lies i cannot.0
